Charles C. Haeberle passed away January 13, 2017 at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Lockwood, Missouri after a long, valiant struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Charles was born to Peter B. and Elizabeth Ann (Covert) Haeberle on April 15, 1931 in Golden City, Missouri. He shared 85 years, 8 months and 28 days.
Charles lived in the Golden City area all of his life helping his dad in the local telephone exchange and farming. During his high school years , his summers were spent with family in Montana working on their wheat operation. Charles graduated from Golden City High School with the class of 1949. He married Merrill Stratton on March 2, 1952. Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. After returning from serving he started farming with his father.
During the years as an area farmer Charles also was an active and contributing member of his community, being a member of the Board(s) of Directors at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, Golden City MFA and the Dade County Soil and Water Board. He faithfully served his church as a Deacon at the Golden City First Christian Church. He aided in providing communion to shut-ins as well as helping with the Wednesday Night Youth Group as long as his health would let him.
His extended family for the last 2 ½ years was the wonderful staff of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home who made his final days more comfortable.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother, George B. Haeberle.
He is survived by his wife of 64 ¾ years, Merrill (Stratton) Haeberle,, his son, Ross Haeberle and wife Bennie, his daughter Helen Wilhelm and husband Gary, his grandchildren Jarrod Wilhelm, Kelsey Haeberle, Alec Haeberle, and nieces and nephews. Charles will be missed by family and friends as well as numerous people he served.
